How long does a hair transplant surgery take? Is hair transplantation painful?

The duration of the hair transplant depends on several factors. Namely:

1) The number of implanted grafts

2) The procedure is followed

The number of grafts implanted

Grafts or hair roots that are extracted and implanted in a procedure determine the duration of the operation. Each graft can have 1-5 strands of hair.

The procedure is followed

There are two main types of hair transplants. The other types are variants of this procedure.

FUE: Follicular unit extraction, as the name suggests, each hair unit is extracted individually, i.e. H. Each graft is extracted individually. It is a very labor intensive process and the timing of the operation depends on the experience of the hair transplant team. We have a highly qualified hair transplant team that can implant up to 3,500 hair transplants in 8 hours.

FUT: Follicular Unit Transplant or Strip Hair Transplant uses a strip of the scalp to extract hair grafts. A strip of the scalp is cut and given to an experienced technician to dissect and separate the hair grafts. It usually takes 4 to 6 hours. Today, FUT technique is not preferred.

Is hair transplantation painful?

To answer this question, it may be a good idea to review some of the basics of hair transplantation. Essentially, hair is removed from a scalp hair growth region and then grafted into the desired (thinning) area. The technique has become extremely sophisticated in recent decades, and hair units with just a few hairs or even a single hair can be removed and grafted effectively into a new area.

The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis and can usually last six to eight hours. While the procedure is extremely convenient, it is still a surgical procedure and some discomfort is expected. Before the procedure, the patient receives a local anesthetic and may feel a slight sting. Soon after, the anesthetic numbs the skin and relieves any sensation throughout the procedure.

Regarding recovery, patients may experience tenderness, redness, and mild pain a few days later and may need to take pain relievers (and possibly anti-inflammatory drugs) to relieve symptoms after the procedure. However, these are generally so mild that patients can return to work within a day or two at most. Following the procedure after the procedure in the first few weeks of healing will help keep discomfort after hair transplantation as low as possible.
